KAPA HAKA
Nelson's own Te Whatukura Team has represented Te Tau Ihu o te Waka a Maui (Top of the South Island) at every National Festival since the year 2000 and are current Regional Champions.
Recently Whatukura unwrapped the mysteries of kapa haka in A Beginner's Guide, at the Theatre Royal and also delighted audiences with a sneak peek of their entry in the prestigious Te Matatini competition.
Hamish Fletcher Lawyers were proud to assist the team in their quest at Te Matatini Competition in Gisborne against 40-plus other groups. This is a continued relationship between law firm and haka team that dates back several years.
Kapa means 'to stand in a row' and haka means 'to dance'. Te Matatini means 'many faces' and Te Matatini o te Ra National Festival is hotly contested by regional winners from throughout Aotearoa/NZ and Australia.
